About Helene:
Helene was born in Denmark in 1954 and came to
The United States in 1975. She studied English, German, French and Latin in Europe. In California she explored
international business and writing before settling on psychology as a major.
Helene
received her M.S. degree in Clinical Psychology in 1987 from San Jose State University. She got licensed as a Marriage
and Family Therapist in 1991, and has been in private practice in downtown Los Altos since. For 14 years (1991-2005)
Helene was also an associate of The Couples Institute in Menlo Park, CA, and regularly presented seminars and workshops for
them.
In addition to counseling couples and individuals, Helene
teaches couples classes, presents workshops, and has lectured about relationships at a variety of Bay Area organizations.
Since 2004 Helene has taught a highly rated graduate course on couples therapy
at
The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA.
She
is approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences to provide continuing education for others in her profession (Marriage
& Family Therapists and Social Workers).
Helene's philosophy
towards therapy is fundamentally existential. She provides her clients with insight into their behaviors and offers
different paradigms. The increased ability to make conscious choices, and then create and enjoy a more meaningful life
is the ideal outcome of her therapy. What she teaches about personal development and relationships can lead to more
congruent behavior, more effective communication, and the creation of better relationships. She is direct, thoughtful,
humorous, and kind.
